Be Inspired

Bloomfield Shopping Centre is a large shopping complex in Bangor. Millennium Advertising created a series of lifestyle visuals for instore display which became the starting point for this commercial. Shot on green screen with tracking and effects created in After Effects we created something different in a crowded marketplace. This was one of out most complex jobs ever undertaken with hundreds of separate layers of animated objects. Click on Recent Work to see the commercial.

Intoducing the New MacBook…Not

We have had an incident today in our studio. The Print Workshop on the top floor of the building had an acid spillage during the night. We have had a fun day trying to recover documents etc (luckily we have most documents well protected and a double backup system in place). Marks nice new laptop however took the brunt of the damage. We have rescued the data from it but only just, as the acid has managed to get right inside the screen etc. Mark will be able to receive mail as usual on a remote machine. Just don't mention his poor MacBook.

Storm 2K Ident

Storm Cinemas needed a sting to play before each movie. Concept Room designed the new Storm logo and we needed an exciting way to introduce the new brand. Rendered at full film 2K resolution we used a large renderfarm online with 50CPU capacity to deliver the job within a short timeframe. Click on Recent Work to see the sting.

International Promo Award Winner

BBC Northern Ireland picked up a Shark Award for Best Direction of Original Footage at the 2006 Shark Awards in Kinsale, for last autumn's campaign, Homegrown. Produced and Directed by Tim Newell, DOP Mark Garrett, Set Design Shane Bunting, Sound Tom Gray, and post-production grading, colour correction and all CGI produced by Streetmonkey.
Needless to say we are very pleased as the promo was up against incredible competition. Click on Movie Archive to see the commercial.

The Patrol is mastered

Streetmonkey have finished mastering "The Patrol", a 20 min short by Allan Gildea featuring Joe Estevez. The short was shot in full HD and required significant post work including adding complex effects and compositing. The film will be touring the usual short film festivals and we will have an "effects only" movie for you to look at some time in the future (cant spoil the film just yet). A still from the film to demonstrate the HD resolution can be grabbed from our downloads page.

Site Hacked

You may have noticed that our web site was out of action for a few hours this afternoon: a "hacker" thought it would be funny to redirect our home page to another site.
Needless to say we got the problem solved right away, but we apologise if you were caused any inconvenience. Thanks to everyone who helped us to determine the source of the problem.

NI Fire & Rescue Service…

More Television Ads

We've just completed a couple more adverts for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (that's 3 TV ads in total) and we're absolutely delighted with the final results. Have a look on our Recent Work page to see the movies. You will likely notice the characters from the adverts popping up on a billboard or bus shelter near you sometime soon: we are also in production of the associated web site which will be live and online in the very near future.

Turku and Helsinki, Finland:

UU/NICEC Conference II

We barely had time to re-pack our bags before jetting off to Finland on 19th June, to attend further policy briefings at the request of UU and NICEC in the Finnish cities of Turku and Helsinki. Similar to our trip to Iceland, this time we met with political representatives, academics and artists to debate the future of Government policy for Northern Ireland's creative economy. Streetmonkey was delighted to contribute to these events and we will continue to look overseas for inspiration and business opportunities in the future…

3D Motion Tracking for BBC Promo

Check out the recent work page of the site to see our latest broadcast work (a promo for BBC Northern Ireland's "Family Focus" show). This job involved digitally extending a small studio set to make it look twice the size: it required some complex 3D tracking work and also features computer generated cloth banners. If we've done our job properly, nobody will notice all our hard work! Watch the movie file to all the way through, the promo is repeated at the end with all the effects shots revealed.

Reykjavik, Iceland:

UU/NICEC Conference

Streetmonkey were on the road again, this time to Iceland's capital city of Reykjavik: the city where the sun never set (but it never stopped raining either). We were there to study how the creative industries work in the many economies of Europe and the rest of the world. We were invited to attend by the University of Ulster and the Northern Ireland Centre for European Corporations, who have been charged by the Office of the First Minister to create a comprehensive policy document for the Northern Ireland creative industries.

During the trip we met with representatives of both the public and private sectors who influence Iceland's arts and creative industries. We also attended meetings with the Ministry of Education and Culture and Iceland's Design Forum. In addition, we visited several of Iceland's leading film makers and artists: we were fortunate enough to be invited to the set of "Lazy Town" where we met the producer / director / star of the show, Magnus Scheving.

LA Film Festival

Streetmonkey had another opportunity to attend the LA Film Festival, as a guest of London-based film director Crawford Dillon-Anderson. As well as attending workshops hosted by leading Hollywood producers and directors, we participated in panel debates with the cream of LA's film executives.

New Streetmonkey Web Site

Welcome to the new Streetmonkey web site. We've finally got something working that will allow you to see our work as soon as it is done. Gone are the days of struggling with tables and nasty lines of code which often don't work in different browsers. Hopefully this site will be a place of change where new articles can be added quickly letting you see our work as soon as possible.

Please be patient if you experience any delays while we develop the web site further over the next few days.
