Grading
Modern film making has abandoned chemical grading in favour of
digital colour effects to enhance
the mood of a scene.
We use technology designed by Stuart T. Maschwitz, ex ILM,
co-founder and chief technology officer of
“The Orphanage”, a visual effects company based in
California.
His grading tools have been used in high profile effects movies as
Benjamin Button.
Grading is a vital part of our workflow and has a number of
different levels depending on needs
It is broken up into Primary, Secondary and Master grading.
Primary - Exposure, Saturation, white balance and
colour shifts.
Secondary - Area based correction using power
masks and keyers
Master - Exposure, density and curves
control.
In addition to all this we have a library of editable
“looks” which are based on common requests from
colourists,
these emulate famous looks used in holywood films and popular tv
series.
Ultimately the hardware is only a powerful tool, it is the
experienced gathered over many years of development in this
exciting area that we treasure the most.
We have completed numerous commercials which use this grading
system and have also finished/graded the international award
winning short film
The Morse Collectors which was commended on it
cinematography.
Below is a quick example of the range of looks available to you to
create the right mood for your scene.
